The Club endured a difficult June on the field with both teams languishing in the relegation zones, but a promising July has led to both teams making significant progress up their respective Divisions.

Senior teams

SATURDAY 23rd June

Hornsea 204, Pocklington 128 off 33.1 overs (30 points)

Hornsea and Pocklington swapped places at the foot of the table Glen Ratcliffe (5-30) and Joe Butterworth (4-24) combing to bowl out Pocklington for 128 and give the home side a much needed boost. Earlier in the day both Andrew Anderson (3-26) and Rich Foster (3-2) took three wickets but runs for the hosts from Jon Fisher (57) and Paul Clappison (36) would prove decisive, a total of 204 turning out to be well beyond the visitors reach.

Hornsea 258-3, Hull Zingari 3rd Xi 234-7 off 45 overs (26 points)

Hornsea got the better of a drawn game at Hull Zingari, rattling up 258 for 3. Matthew Knapton top scoring with his maiden century 104 in some style. Richard Evans (57 not out) and Richard Hornby (50) both added half centuries. Zingari put up a spirited reply with Michael Obridge (74) and Sajee Chandrasegaram (91 not out) keeping the run chase alive but with Taylor Wallace taking 5 for 67 & both Evans and Kieran Gibson applying the breaks on the scoring rate they eventually closed on 234 for 7.

SATURDAY 30th June

Hornsea 294-7 off 48 overs, Harrogate 2nd Xi 279-9 off 48 overs (27 points)

Harrogate were indebted to the last wicket pair as they held on to salvage a draw from a high scoring encounter at Hornsea. Paul Clappison (92) was dismissed in sight of a century as the home side posted a formidable looking 294-7, aided by Mark Battye 39 & Rich Medforth 32 but in a match dominated by batsman on both sides it was the performances of Joe Butterworth with 4-51 and Ashley McKinley 3-68 for the home side that stood out. Half-centuries for the visitors from Oliver Horberry (59) and George Hampson (52) alongside runs from Andrew Hawkswell (48) and Will Topham (49) put the visitors in with a chance of victory but they eventually closed on 279-9 still 15 runs adrift.

Hornsea 40, Cherry Burton 44-2 off 8.1 overs (1 point)

Hornsea were shot out for just 40 when they visited Cherry Burton with David Butt (7 for 12) and Sam Sharp (3 for 23) doing the damage on a typically bowler friendly pitch, Sam Lakin doing well to reach 15. With the low target Matt Spencer swung the bat, finishing unbeaten on 32 as Cherry cruised to an eight wicket victory, again T Wallace taking both wickets.

SATURDAY 7th July

Hornsea 204, Dringhouses 119 off 32.1 overs (30 points)

Dringhouses visited Hornsea but left empty handed following a match dominated by the bowlers on both sides. The home side duo of Ash McKinley (40) and Rich Medforth (45) helped their side to 204, Tom Storr (3-38) and Jacob Green (3-41) taking three wickets a piece. Medforth was again at the heart of the action this time with the ball taking 3-24 but it was Glen Ratcliffe with remarkable figures of five wickets for eight runs who was ultimately responsible as the visitors were bowled out for 119, that despite Liam Hancey’s spirited 37.

Patrington 182, Hornsea 2nd XI 186-6 off 42.1 overs(30 points)

Dean Johnson scored 102 and took 4 for 52 for Patrington but still ended on the losing side when they entertained Hornsea. Batting first, the hosts posted 182 all out where apart from Johnson, only Brian Butler 28 and C Maplebeck 17 reached double figures. Karl Greenwood took 4 for 14 for the visitors. The Hornsea reply started disastrously with 3 of the top 4 failing to score, but after a period of rebuilding Matt Knapton 45 not out and Greenwood 69not out eased Hornsea to a four wicket victory.

SATURDAY 14th July

Hornsea 131 off 48 overs Beverley 2nd XI 132-6 off 27.4 overs (5 points)

Beverley Town sit third after they won a low scoring contest against Hornsea. The visitors struggled against James Emery (4-54) and Joey Franklin (3-10). After a steady start, a batting collapse ensued losing 6 wickets with 5 overs, only Glen Ratcliffe (30) and Joe Butterworth (32no) getting going as the side was all out for 131. The home side did lose six wickets, two apiece from Butterworth & Adam Newington, but after 41 from Olly Grantham and 40 from Tony Spence they were able to secure a result which maintains their promotion challenge.

Humbleton 130, Hornsea 131-3 off 27.1 overs (30 points)

Humbleton were all out for 130 when they visited Hornsea with Josh Styche scoring 62, Mark Oakes 26 against the spin of Richard Evans who claimed 3 victims. Hornsea cruised to a seven wicket victory with Richard Hornby scoring 67 not out ably supported by Sam Lakin 25 and Nick Dobbin 24 not out.
